Beautifully renovated in 2020 into 3 wonderful apartments, Fatuma’s Tower is a historic property named after Fatuma Ali Abu Bakar, a Swahili noble woman who lived with five female attendants at the end of the 19th century. Sleeping up to 8 adults, guests can rent one apartment or take all three (which sleep 2, 4 and 2 from ground to third floor) for their family or friends. Guests enter through the pretty garden which also has tables for breakfast, lunch and supper. The wonderful house staff include your chef who can prepare (with advance notice) delicious, fresh meals throughout your stay. The cuisine is a blend of Swahili and European dishes and only uses the freshest ingredients from the surrounding areas. Fatuma Tower’s owner lives at the house and, having lived in Lamu for over 20 years, knows everything about the island and the best ways to enjoy this magical place. She is a major organiser in the Shela beach ocean litter clean up campaign, and her group efforts in collecting plastic waste have allowed residents and guests to continue to enjoy the area’s natural beauty. Please note there are 2 residents dogs and 2 cats who also live at Fatuma’s Tower
