With views across the loch to the ruins of a 13th century castle and mountains beyond, a stay in this wonderful, luxurious private cottage is nothing short of magical.
Loch an Eilein (pronounced ‘locan-yellen’) is Gaelic for Loch of the Island. Upon arrival the reason for this is clear as the views from this magical cottage looking out over the ruins of the loch’s island with its 13th century castle to the mountains beyond are some of the most spectacular in the Highlands. The 19th century house has been exquisitely restored into a luxurious romantic Highland retreat close to the slopes of Cairngorm. Inside, gorgeous tranquil interiors have been created by leading London-based stylist and interior designer Fanny Ward who designed it as a cocoon of warmth and comfort from the changeable Highland weather. A double-sided wood burning stove fills both the living room and bedroom with its welcome warm glow. The open-plan living room and kitchen are a relaxing space whether enjoying dinner or breakfast together or simply sitting and looking out to the loch and its wildlife from a window seat. The sumptuous double bedroom with king size bed has a large, underfloor-heated en suite bathroom, with a bath and shower. The bedroom leads to a “sit-out-erie” where you can unwind before dinner with a drink and a book. Guests at Loch an Eilein will feel secluded without feeling isolated. The walking path around the loch is nearby and you will be regularly visited by the local wildlife including deer, red squirrels, badgers and Highland birds. If you can bear to drag yourself away from your loch and its forested shores, you’ll be right in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, with its dramatic, mountainous landscapes, charming towns and villages and an endless range of outdoor activities. We really are so delighted to be able to offer this singular cottage to our guests.
